Why treat it?
A testicle that stays outside the scrotum develops less well. Surgery aims to protect future fertility and make the testicle easier to monitor.
An undescended testicle is one that is not in place in the scrotum. It is a common condition in newborns, especially premature babies.
Also known as: cryptorchidism, orchidopexy
A testicle that stays outside the scrotum develops less well. Surgery aims to protect future fertility and make the testicle easier to monitor.
Surgery is generally recommended before 18 months of age, ideally around 6 to 12 months. A consultation confirms the diagnosis and determines the right timing.
It consists of bringing the testicle down and fixing it in the scrotum (orchidopexy). The child usually goes home the same day.
This information is general and does not replace a consultation: every child is assessed individually.
